Aluminium windows beautifully compliment period property

Explore the many design, style and glazing options of aluminium windows

There are many reasons why aluminium windows are becoming the more popular choice for refurbishment and new build projects.

The thick frames of uPVC windows are less fashionable as homeowners seek the slim sightlines of aluminium. The material itself is both sustainable and low in maintenance, with long life spans of around 30 years. The design of aluminium windows is typically modern and minimal, with an emphasis on glass and an exceptional range of colours and finishes. However, there are many options for heritage styles that offer energy-efficient replacement of timber frame and steel windows and doors.

Navigating your way through all the options to find your perfect product can seem daunting, but we can help make your choice easier with our design guide.

Modern Windows

The key feature of modern style aluminium windows is the emphasis on larger glass expanses, so slim frames and sashes are essential. The beading options can also help create a modern feel.

Traditional-Style-window

1. More Glass, Less Frame

The 58BW window range has options to create ultra-minimal styles. The popular look of large expanses of glass and narrow frames can be created with our 58BW window using various configurations and opening including fixed lights – also known as non-opening windows.

Using the 58BW window, you can also create large gable ends and large glazing areas using multiple windows for maximum light and views.

2. That desirable flush aesthetic

The sharp shadow line and flush aesthetic of the 58BW Flush window is in high demand among homeowners who love the look of flush timber windows but want the modern appearance, security and energy-efficiency of aluminium.

With two slim sash options and a range of configurations, you can achieve minimal sightlines and the sleek flush aesthetic with this high-performance window.

3. Less is more

There are many options within the 58BW window range that create a contemporary look for your property. The secret to achieving a modern and minimal aesthetic is to choose window styles that have flat or square sashes, and where possible, opt for larger glazed areas rather than the more traditional open out over fixed light configurations.

The 58BW window range offers a multitude of configurations, so you can create bay windows using any of our modern sash styles to instantly bring more traditional property styles up to date.

Traditional Windows

Whether you are refurbishing your home or building new, you can create stylish yet traditional windows using aluminium windows in a variety of configurations and glazing options.

From cosy cottage casement windows that mimic timber, to chamfered bay windows with glazing beads to suit period and traditional style properties, you can find a durable and energy-efficient aluminium solution to enhance your home.

Our Ovolo and Chamfered styles are perfect for achieving that more traditional look. The Ovolo detail is a narrow rounded edge on the frame or sash, or both, giving a softer look. The Chamfered edge is popular in both timber and UPVc. Its angles look stylish in aluminium, and like Ovolo, create a softer, traditional aesthetic.

All of our 58BW windows are available with the Ovolo or Chamfered frame and sash options. Speak to your fabricator to find out which will suit your property.

Heritage Windows

Replacing traditional steel windows with slim aluminium profiles can retain the heritage look whilst improving thermal performance and safety. Our 58BW ST (Steel Replacement) window systems are the perfect option for both heritage-style homes, and the more industrial-style properties.

The 58BW ST range can also be used to create larger glazed areas that beautifully compliment modern extensions on period properties.

By using glazing beads and selecting either the stepped edge, square or putty line options, you can create a heritage window style that suits your property.

Window Designs and Configurations

With so many options, you can create any style of window using our 58BW range. Your choice might be shaped by the type of opening you require, which may be open-out in the kitchen for space and convenience, and tilt-before-turn in the bedroom for safety and ease of cleaning. You can choose from:

  • Top hung
  • Side hung
  • Bottom hung
  • Tilt before turn
  • Top swing reversable
  • French casement

Your design can be shaped by the window configurations you choose; larger glazed areas look modern and minimal, while glazing beads and more mullions and transoms [link to FAQ) can create a traditional or heritage aesthetic.

Glazing Options

There are many glazing options to suit the style of your home, all combining the benefits of double or triple glazing with the high performance of our aluminium frames.

  • Standard clear glass
  • Square leaded glass – for a heritage look
  • Diamond leaded glass – for traditional window styles
  • Horizontal flat astragal bars – both modern and period styles
