The property
A charming 19th century cottage in rural Hampshire needed replacements for its draughty and inefficient timber window frames. The flint stone property was rich in period features, so the choice of window was key to retaining this sought-after country cottage aesthetic.
Why owners approached us
The owners wanted to replace their existing timber windows with something that suited the character of the property, but with a touch of contemporary design elegance. They chose AluK’s 58BW Flush aluminium frames, with an ultra slim 45mm sightline on the sash and 24mm on the frame, primarily because of the aesthetics, but also because of their maintenance-free feature.
The solution
AluK’s 58BW Flush windows are the ideal solution as a replacement for timber windows in traditional refurbishment projects. Replicating the slim sightlines and sharp shadow lines of timber, they offer all the inherent benefits of aluminium, such as low maintenance and enhanced security, as well as thermal and weather performance.
In total, 13 open-out casement windows have been installed in this cottage, all in Signal Grey with a 5mm shadow line and no visible gasket. Double glazed throughout, they not only eliminate draughts, but also help to reduce energy bills.
The windows were manufactured by AluK’s trusted fabricator CWG Choices and installed by Allums Property Services of Newbury.
The result
The installer, Kevin Allum commented: “This was the first time we had installed the 58BW Flush frames and it was a real pleasure. The installation looks great, and the homeowners were delighted with the whole process from start to finish.”
The homeowners were very happy with the result and pleased that the installation was fast and efficient.
